An October snow storm left station 4-5 busy over this past weekend. On Saturday (October 29) as the wet-heavy snow was falling E4-5-2 was dispatched for wires down along Rt 30 & then a public service call near 245 S. Vintage Rd (Paradise Twp), when Chief 4-5 arrived on scene, he discovered several trees & wires that were completely blocking the road. Due to the possibility of wires still being “live” and the extended ETA of PP&L, the road was completely shut down.
At 14:36 – the pagers went off again for a Vehicle Accident (Class #1) near the intersection of Route 30 & Mcilavine Rd (Paradise Twp). Chief 4-5 (Brubaker) arrived on scene to find a pick-up truck vs mid-size SUV, with partial blocking. E4-5-2 arrived on scene, and assisted with traffic control, de-powering the vehicles & patient care. Ambulance 4-3-1 & 4-3-2 both transported to a local hospital. Once PSP completed their investigation both vehicles were removed via CJ’s Towing. E4-5-2 went available at 15:48.
The following day, Sunday (October 30) it was discovered that there were numerous large tree’s down blocking S. Vintage Rd. This road was still shut down from the day before, however now that PP&L had completed their work, the clean up could begin. It took several hours to clear the road-way, but crews were able to get the road open shortly after lunch-time. As crews were returning, they were alerted of a Trash Fire in the area of 3320 Lincoln Hwy E. Crews on E4-5-2 assisted Station 4-7 in extinguishing the fire.
